director & cinematographer

Jackson James is a freelance filmmaker and cinematographer whose work has garnered Primetime Emmy nominations, a Cinema Eye Honors Award, festival premieres at the likes of Sundance Film Festival and SXSW, multiple Vimeo Staff Picks, and more. He is a founding partner and co-director of Weird Life Films.
Having spent years of his career producing music videos and other kinds of performance documentation, Jackson's intuition for finding the flow and poetry of a performance, scene, or moment has been at the heart of his practice, shaped by over ten years of experience across a variety of productions. Through this practice, he's able to capture verité moments with a keen sense of observation.
Jackson's roots of his music video production implement antiquated formats, uncommon techniques, and custom-built camera rigs. These experimental approaches make for a distinctive visual style that has an edge to it brought about by a desire to innovate and explore.
